Nena

Roster / Marc Smeesters

NENA was born in Liège in a family of Spanish political exiles. Nicknamed "the little Pasionaria", she started out in a group before choosing the solo route to confront her intimate heritage. Her music blends Latin chanson, folk and flamenco rumba, influenced by artists such as Chavela Vargas and Violeta Parra. Her musical aesthetic is both fragile and powerful, imbued with both sorrow and hope.

In May 2023, Manu Chao invited her to support him in Liège, prompting her to record her first solo project, "La raíz". The single "Canto a la luna", released in November, stood out for its baroque video co-directed by NENA herself, and screened at the Botanique

A finalist in several competitions (Sphères sonores, Nouvelles écritures), she released her EP in March 2024, boosted by a sold-out first concert in Liège. Her tour took her to major Belgian venues such as Esperanzah!, Sfinks Mundial and Manifiesta, where her live show aroused strong emotions.

In December 2024, she was selected for a showcase at the Ancienne Belgique by the Belgian Worldwide Music Network, and her EP was ranked 3rd best album of the year - Audience Award.

NENA is continuing to bring her project to life with a fifty-date tour, while at the same time opening up internationally. Building on her initial successes, she is preparing her second EP, as well as a music documentary entitled "La raíz", which will tell the story of her project and her roots through images.
